Fujiko A. Fujio Dies at 88

The Japanese manga artist Fujiko A. Fujio who once worked together with Doraemon’s writer Fujiko F. Fujio in the creation of many popular manga characters was found dead at his place of residence on 7 April 2022 morning. He was 88.

Fujiko A. Fujio, whose real name is Motoo Abiko, was best known for working with Fujiko F. Fujio, whose real name is Hiroshi Fujimoto to form the manga duo Fujiko Fujio that was dismissed at a later time as they being to focus on individual creations. Fujiko F. Fujio, the creator and writer of popular manga characters like Doraemon is Fujiko A. Fujio’s childhood friend. He passed away in 1996 while writing a new Doraemon The Movie.

Doraemon Fan Club, Singapore learned that the local police received a report on Thursday morning at around 8:30AM Japan Time, stating that a man collapsed on the premises of Abiko’s home, according to the Kanagawa prefectural police department. Police officers who arrived at the scene confirmed that he had passed away before their arrival. The exact cause of death is still unknown at the time of writing.
